Explore natural dyes with Larisa Walk and put some homegrown color into your locally grown fibers. Learn how to make basic dye baths with common and abundant plants, the use of mordants to make your dyes permanent and washable, and some modifiers to expand the palette. See what can come out of the dye pot and hopefully you'll be inspired to brew up some colors of your own.

A lifetime resident of SE Minnesota and West Central Wisconsin, she began needle felting shortly after acquiring her first Shetland sheep in 2001. She was enthralled by the multiple uses for the beautiful wool her Shetlands produced and took classes in spinning, knitting and felting. Although she no longer lives in the country and has her beloved Shetland sheep, her love affair with their beautiful fiber lives on.


Over the years, she taken many classes, attended workshops and practiced the delightful art of felting. Her favorite technique is needle felting and her favorite subject is animals. She is kept quite busy doing commissioned pieces for pet owners and pride herself on making life-like replicas of people’s beloved pets, using photographs as her inspiration.

More than 30 years ago Nancy took her first weaving class while in summer school at the University of Oslo, Norway. For the last 20 years she has raised rare breeds of natural colored sheep for her source of wool.  She will be demonstrating how much you can do with a small and simple loom. Larger looms and spinning wheels will also be on display and demonstrated.

Kirsten is the owner of The Farm at Rush Arbor in Rushford, MN, a sustainable multi-faceted farm with Huacaya alpacas, Nubian dairy goats, Angus cattle, horses, pastured market and laying chickens, turkeys & other fowl.

She is the founder of the Rushford Peterson Valley Farmers’ Market, a market that offers fresh and local produce alongside textiles, fiber crafts and hand spun yarn.  As a homeschooling mother of five, Kirsten is used to teaching children of all ages and ability and enjoys sharing her love of fiber and crafts.
